The
Post Oak has an entry-level position open for a
barn manager, assistant instructor, and wrangler. The
job involves daily barn chores and horse care, teaching riding and horsemanship to
beginning adult and youth riders, and saddling horses for and
guiding
2-hour
recreational rides out on the ranch. This is an
excellent opportunity for someone who has a real interest in building the
lesson program around his/her skills. Western and English disciplines
are taught at the Post Oak and the stronger candidates will have experience
in both.
This position is most suited to a young entry-level individual seeking "real-world"
experience and who wants to learn all aspects of operating an equestrian
program in a rural setting.
We are not a show barn. The schedule varies from season to season and the
successful candidate will be comfortable working alone. Assisting with
all kinds of ranch and maintenance shores during slow periods is expected.
There is a base wage to start,
room for one horse, and on-site housing. Living on the property is required.
There is a 90-day probationary period. At the end of the probationary
period, wages will increase slightly.
The Post Oak does not provide health or accident insurance
coverage.
Working effectively with
children and youth riders is a priority. Many of our students are beginning riders in both English and
western disciplines. Following the Post Oak's safety procedures with both
horses and riders is also of the highest priority.
The candidate must be a competent rider and teacher and have a solid foundation
in horsemanship and rider safety.
Living on the property is required. The Post Oak is
not a suitable location for candidates with children or families due to the
housing situation.
There are 2-week,
30-day and 90-day trial periods during which the candidate must demonstrate
competence and the ability to meet all job requirements. Background and
reference checks are conducted.
Required Qualifications:
Knowledge of horses, horse care,
and barn management.
Competence in both English and western riding
disciplines.
Prior successful teaching experience.
Other Qualifications:
This position requires an individual who can work well on
his/her own, is very flexible
and easy going, who has a strong work ethic,
is completely reliable,
has considerable physical strength and stamina,
and a willing attitude. The
Post Oak has a diverse equestrian program. We strive to provide excellence
in all our programs and to do so requires complete commitment and dedication
from each member of our team. Work hours and responsibilities are
significant.
In addition to the riding and boarding programs, Post Oak is also a small working ranch where we raise cattle, goats and
grow hay. In addition we operate on a bed and breakfast format for guests
who stay on the ranch.
